About 300 guests were evacuated from the W Hotel on Victory Avenue this morning when a fire was detected in the building.

They waited across the street at the American Airlines Center, most wearing white hotel bathrobes against a brisk wind, for the all-clear.
According to Capt. Russell Batchelor of Dallas Fire Rescue, the fire was contained in a dumpster on the hotel loading dock. There was no major damage to the building and no injuries were reported.
The first alarm came at 9:14 a.m. and the second at 9:17 a.m. Ten pieces of fire-fighting equipment responded to blaze, which is under investigation.
One hotel employee was taken away in an ambulance due to a condition that was unrelated to the fire, authorities said.
Michelle Taylor, one of a group of five friends who came up from Austin for the Mavericks' game Saturday night, was among the evacuees. She was in her eighth-floor room when the order came to leave.
"This voice came on and said, 'There is a fire emergency. Please evacuate," she said.
Captain Batchelor said sprinklers in the building contained the fire until firefighters arrived.
"Everything worked like it should," he said.
